Good research needs good data. Progress in information and communication technology is accompanied by a growing demand by scientists for adequate study materials. Within historical research there is a need for sources that map the development of real estate possession in an encompassing and detailed manner. The Belgian land registry manages a sizeable inventory of real estate data that lead to the necessary insights with the assistance of modern techniques. The POPPKAD project unlocks historical real estate data by compiling cadastral records published by P.C. Popp into ready-to-use databases. It focuses on the study of owners and landownership relations in different area of Belgium in the nineteenth century.
